A Potential Transformer is a special type of transformer that allows meters to take readings from electrical service connections with higher voltage (potential) than the meter is normally capable of handling without at potential transformer. Potential Transformers are instrument transformers used to feed the potential coils of indicating and metering relays. These Potential Transformers make the ordinary low voltage instruments suitable for the measurement of high voltages and isolate them for high voltage.
